Our Cause Schizophrenia is a physical disorder of the brain that affects the chemistry and function of the brain. Schizophrenia is not a split or multiple personality, nor is it caused by poor parenting or life trauma. The usual onset of the disorder occurs between ages 15 – 30, and most often schizophrenia responds to medications and treatment programs.
